THE M.E.G.A. HAND
The M.E.G.A. HAND (Multidisciplinary European Group for Aesthetics of the Hand) is a medical scientific society being interested in the Hand and Upper limb Aesthetics. The M.E.G.A. HAND’s main interests lie in the three following fields: Clinics, Cosmetics and Symbolism of the Hand and Upper limb. The clinical topics include all the medical and surgical pathologies of the whole upper limb where the visual aspect plays an important role and where treatments not only improve the function but also the aesthetic appearance and the body image. “Aesthetics, it is already function.” (R. VILAIN) “The hand, it is not only function.” (MEGA HAND) In addition, the specificities of using hands-on treatments that have already been applied to the face and body are also discussed. “The hand is a challenging area, what works on hands works everywhere.” (MEGA HAND) In the cosmetic field, the aging of the hand and upper limb and corresponding rejuvenating techniques are addressed. Lastly and because hands like the face are socially very important, some non medical topics as the symbolism of the hand or the hand in arts are integrated in the sessions with the aim of providing a global view on hand aesthetics. “The hand is the extension of the brain.” (ANAXAGORAS) Our main activity consists in organizing an annual meeting in Paris, France since 2008. The 1st symposium was held on February 2, 2008 at the Faculty of St Antoine (80 attendees, 8 companies). The 2nd one was held on February 27-28, 2009 at the Faculty of St Antoine (140 attendees, 18 companies). The 3rd one was held on March 19-20, 2010 at the UIC Convention Center (250 attendees, 28 companies). The 4th one will be held on September 30 - October 1, 2011 at Le Palais des Congrès, as a joint meeting of the EMAA 2011 (2000 attendees, 100 companies).
Each meeting is a multidisciplinary symposium covering all surgical, medical and paramedical fields of the Hand and Upper Limb aesthetics and unaesthetics, from nail to shoulder and from reconstruction to rejuvenation. Multidisciplinarity, innovation, excellence and international spirit are among the main ambitions of our symposiums. For that, numerous prestigious speakers from the 5 continents are ensuring a very high scientific level in a very friendly ambiance. Our symposiums are mainly dedicated to plastic surgeons, hand surgeons, dermatologists and aesthetic physicians, but rheumatologists, paramedical staffs, scientists, technicians, artists and any physician or person with a special interest in the hand or upper limb aesthetics are also welcome. Beside these annual meetings, each member of the M.E.G.A. HAND is promoting worldwide this new and innovating topic of hand and upper limb aesthetics, through publications and international meetings.
